Abstract

The present study was conducted with the aim of modeling the impact of competency-based human resource management on employees’ career adaptability with the mediating role of work vitality. The research method is descriptive–correlational. The statistical population included 194 employees of universities in Bonab County, of which 129 were selected as the research sample using Cochran’s formula and stratified random sampling. The data collection instruments consisted of standardized questionnaires: Competency-Based Human Resource Management (Zhang et al., 2016), Work Vitality (Nigayne, 2022), and Career Adaptability (Savickas & Porfeli, 2012). To examine the existence of causal relationships among the variables and to assess the fit of the observed data with the conceptual model, the research hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling and the Partial Least Squares method (PLS3). The research findings indicated that capability-oriented human resource management has a significant effect on employees’ career adaptability in the universities of Bonab County (β = 0.404, t = 4.324), and that capability-oriented human resource management also has a significant effect on job vitality in the universities of Bonab County (β = 0.789, t = 25.900). In addition, job vitality has a significant effect on employees’ career adaptability in the universities of Bonab County (β = 0.437, t = 4.357). Furthermore, at the 99 percent confidence level, job vitality plays a mediating role in the effect of capability-oriented human resource management on employees’ career adaptability in the universities of Bonab County.
